The purpose of this symposium is to provide practitioners the opportunity to gain experience with ultrasound guided nerve blocks for regional anesthesia. Participants will be able to describe the basic principles of using ultrasound for regional anesthesia, including indications, equipment, and best approaches for imaging. Participants will become familiar with identifying key anatomical structures on the ultrasound exam and will be able to practice needle manipulation with in-plane and out-of-plane techniques. Small group workshops will allow participants hands-on experience with a wide variety of blocks. At the end of the activity, participants will have enhanced competency in the use of ultrasound for nerve blocks, which will lead to increased skill and improved patient outcomes.
