Call for Nominations for ASA Resident Component Governing Council
It is time to call for candidates for the ASA Resident Component Governing Council. The positions that will be selected by the Resident Component House of Delegates on Sunday, October 12, 2014, include:
• AMA Alternate Delegate
• Junior Co-Editor
Any PGY-2 or greater resident with 18 months or more left in residency or fellowship is eligible to run for office. PGY-1 residents are not eligible to be nominated for office. Of note, the President-Elect, AMA Alternate Delegate, and Junior Co-Editor are 2-year positions; this allows for one year of working closely with the senior officer before assuming full responsibilities. CA-1's and CA-2's are eligible, as are CA-3's pursuing a fellowship. The Secretary position is a 1-year position.
Candidates must submit an application, a one page personal statement of interest, a one page summary of qualifications and platform statement, a CV (as a Word document), and a letter from the candidate’s anesthesia residency program director. The Junior Co-Editor candidate must also submit a 500- to 700-word writing sample on a topic of his or her choice. All application materials will be available in an online form, though the one page document that summarizes your qualifications and platform is the only material that will be distributed in paper copy at the Resident Component House of Delegates meeting.
Please note the candidate's residency program director should provide a strong letter of support. The program director's letter should clearly state the resident will have ample protected time to prepare for and attend all of the meetings and perform the responsibilities of each respective office. The duties and requirements are listed in the ASA Resident Component Bylaws.
Nominations should be emailed to email@example.com, faxed to 847-825-1692 Attention: Resident Component, or mailed to ASA, Attention: Resident Component, 520 N. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, IL 60068-2573. These materials are due by Friday, September 12, 2014 to be included in the delegate handbook. There will be no exceptions.
Candidates are encouraged to contact the current officers to discuss the duties and responsibilities and to ask any questions. A list of the current officers and contact information can be found on the ASARC website.
Residents interested in representing their state in the Resident Component House of Delegates should contact their state societies to determine what the process is for being elected or appointed to the ASARC HOD.
