Anesthesiology calendar note from the Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology
Prototypes: Professor Macintosh and his laryngoscope
Just 76 years ago this month, Dr. Robert Reynolds Macintosh was named as Oxford's first Nuffield Professor of Anaesthetics. Rather than for preventing dental damage, his Macintosh laryngoscope blade was curved primarily for facilitating less irritating views of the vocal cords. Sir Robert Macintosh presented this prototype Macintosh blade to the Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology.
