ASA-Supported Medical Liability Reform Legislation Passes House
Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1215, the Protecting Access to Care Act, ASA-supported legislation which contains reforms critical to bringing down health care costs and ensuring access to care for all patients.
This legislation will provide full economic compensation to applicable patients, while putting an end to medical lawsuit abuse and maintaining access to vital medical services for all. The legislation advances California Medical Injury Compensation Reform Act (MICRA)-type reforms to health care provided through or supported by federal programs. The legislation passed by a vote of 218 - 210.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, H.R. 1215 will cut federal healthcare spending by $44 billion over 10 years and reduce the deficit by $50 billion over the same period of time.
Next this legislation will head to the Senate. ASA will continue to closely track this legislation, and thanks ASA members for contacting their lawmakers in support of this important issue.
