American Society of Anesthesiologists - Physician Supervision of Nurse Anesthetists

Supervision of Nurse Anesthetists

Summary: Nurse anesthetists are non-physician anesthetists who specialize in the provision of anesthesia care and participate in the administration of anesthesia in a variety of surgical cases and settings. Nurse anesthetists are frequently supervised by a physician anesthesiologist, but may also work under the supervision of other physicians. Nearly all states require nurse anesthetists to practice within some kind of collaborative or supervisory agreement as part of a patient-centered, physician-led, health care team. Learn More
