NGS announces prepayment review for specific E/M services
National Government Services (NGS) recently announced it will conduct prepayment reviews on claims for higher-level evaluation and management (E/M) codes. The results of these reviews will be a starting point for provider education materials. Requests for documentation will need to be addressed promptly. See ASA’s new memo on prepayment review.

How ether separated Thoreau from his senses
|Anesthesiology Calendar Note from the Wood Library-Museum
Just 163 years ago this month, in May 1851, philosopher Henry David Thoreau was etherized for dental extractions. His diary records, “By taking the ether the other day I was convinced how far asunder a man could be separated from his senses." – George S. Bause, M.D., M.P.H.
