Medical Students and Residents

By focusing on creating and growing opportunities, connections, and platforms for trainees, ASA aims to ensure a formative and empowering experience for a member from medical school all the way to retirement. The Medical Student and Resident Components harness the fresh and enthusiastic perspective of trainee members and show the gateway to the endless possibilities an ASA membership provides at every stage. We strive to connect mentees who want to share and be heard with mentors who want to listen and pave the way for the future of the specialty.

ASA engaged the next generation of anesthesiologists with the following programs:

Medical Student Component and the new MSC Crew.
The Medical Student Component launched the new MSC Crew System, a micro committee volunteering opportunity for medical students to engage in think tanks and projects that aim to improve the medical student experience in education, advocacy, membership, and wellness.

in 2024, ASA launched the new ASA Resident Distinction Award.
The Resident Component, in partnership with ASA Secretary Kraig de Lanzac, MD, MBA, FASA, and the Program Director Advisory group, successfully launched the new ASA Resident Distinction Award. This award was created to help develop, acknowledge, and celebrate anesthesiology residents' professional citizenship, leadership, and scholarship capabilities.
