The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) would like to congratulate this year’s recipient of the FAER Mentoring Excellence in Research Award, Alex S. Evers, MD, Henry E. Mallinckrodt Professor of Anesthesiology at the Washington University School of Medicine.
The Mentoring Excellence in Research Award recognizes the value of outstanding mentors in anesthesiology. Dr. Evers is an outstanding example of the type of exceptional mentor FAER seeks to celebrate with this award. He is recognized for his unwavering commitment to the success of his mentees. His support reaches well beyond the early-career stage to span decades of mentorship, a practice made all the more impactful thanks to his prioritization of his mentees’ scientific careers and success. The quality and reach of Dr. Evers’ mentorship has even influenced anesthesiology on an international scale, with his guidance benefiting physician-investigators from the US to Austria to Japan.
FAER is proud to present Dr. Evers with this year’s Mentoring Excellence in Research Award. We hope you will join us in congratulating him on this achievement as well as thanking him for his contributions to our specialty as an anesthesiologist, researcher, and mentor.
“I am honored to be selected as the 2024 recipient of the FAER Mentoring Excellence in Research Award. It is particularly gratifying that my colleagues and trainees nominated me and supported my candidacy. As I enter the fifth decade of my career in academic anesthesiology, I recognize that inspiring and facilitating the accomplishments of colleagues and trainees has been incredibly rewarding and has contributed vastly more to the science of anesthesiology than my personal research efforts ever could. I thank FAER for this recognition and for their immeasurable contributions to developing the careers of anesthesiology researchers.”

We would also like to welcome and congratulate the newest members of the Academy of Research Mentors in Anesthesiology (ARMA). Click on the pictures of our new members’ to view their faculty profiles.
ARMA facilitates the development of educational and research programs for junior faculty members, supports faculty members in mentoring roles, and is a resource for the development of mentors and role models in academic anesthesia. The three new members noted above will make excellent additions to ARMA and FAER is pleased to welcome them to this academy.
Finally, please join FAER in welcoming ARMA’s newest Councilors and thanking them for their support. Drs. Morgan and Nagele will lend their leadership in helping shape ARMA’s plans and activities as it continues to grow, and FAER is grateful to benefit from their mentoring and scientific expertise.
