ASA Comment on Inclusivity in Anesthesiology and Medical Education

The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) is dedicated to raising the standards of the medical practice of anesthesiology and to improving patient care. Our achievements and those of our members have played an important role in American medicine, and we continue to advocate for all patients who require anesthesia, pain management, or critical care services.

ASA remains committed to fostering a community where excellence is sought and where all our members, including medical students, experience belonging and inclusion. Patients are best served when patient-centered, high-quality, culturally competent health care is prioritized.

Consistent with ASA’s mission, vision, and values, we are committed to encouraging and facilitating a diverse and inclusive physician-led anesthesia care team for the health of our patients. We believe the elimination of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in medical education would impede progress toward these goals.
