The Anesthesia Quality Institute (AQI) was established in October 2008 by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). The original vision of AQI was “to be the primary source of information for quality improvement in the clinical practice of anesthesiology. Through education and quality feedback, AQI will help to improve the quality care of patients, lower anesthesia mortality, and lower anesthesia incidents.”
Twelve years after the founding of AQI, the Board of Directors commissioned a Strategic Planning Working Group (SPWG) to develop a strategic plan for the next five years (2022–2027).
This Strategic Plan is the result of several months of deliberations about what AQI does well and where AQI needs to focus to best fulfill its mission to Drive continuous improvement and elevate the clinical quality and safety of patients’ Anesthesiology and Perioperative care.
