CHICAGO – The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) today announced Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated (Nasdaq: VRTX) has joined ASA’s Industry Supporter Program, supporting the Society’s more than 59,000 anesthesiologist members to improve patient care for the treatment of acute and neuropathic pain.
“We are excited to welcome Vertex Pharmaceuticals as a new ASA industry supporter, which we believe represents an excellent opportunity to advance education and innovation for our members,” said ASA President Donald E. Arnold, M.D., FACHE, FASA. “Vertex and ASA share a mutual commitment toward development of potential best-in-class non-opioid pain medicines and optimizing patient outcomes and look forward to working together to advance these shared goals.”
"Our partnership with ASA is an essential part of our efforts to improve, and ultimately transform, the treatment of moderate-to-severe acute pain,” said Carmen Bozic, M.D., Executive Vice President, Global Medicines Development and Medical Affairs, and Chief Medical Officer at Vertex. “By collaborating with clinicians to understand their needs, we are developing a deeper understanding of the unmet need in pain and how we can best address this for health care providers, patients and other stakeholders.”
Vertex is investigating potential non-opioid treatment options for acute and peripheral neuropathic pain and recently presented its pivotal Phase 3 data in acute pain on its investigational pain signal inhibitor, suzetrigine, to the medical community at ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2024. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted Priority Review to its New Drug Application submission for suzetrigine for moderate-to-severe acute pain with a Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) target action date of January 30, 2025. Suzetrigine is investigational and has not been approved by any regulatory health authority.
Launched in 2010, ASA’s Industry Supporter Program is limited to 10 organizations. Participation is intended for companies who want to stand apart by showcasing high-level commitment to the education of anesthesiologists, the anesthesia care team and advancement of the specialty.
