On Wednesday, February 16, Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Senator John Boozman (R-AR) introduced the Resident Education Deferred Interest Act (REDI Act), the Senate companion bill to HR 4122 sponsored by Rep. Brian Babin (R-TX-36) and Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA-6).
The bill would allow borrowers to qualify for interest-free deferment on their student loans while serving in a medical or dental internship or residency program. ASA believes the REDI Act will help make medical education more affordable and boost health care outcomes across the nation.
ASA is pleased to join other medical and dental societies to renew our endorsement of the REDI Act and urges Congress to advance this legislation.
Urge your lawmaker to support student loan relief for residents.
