ASA Analysis of 2022 Elections
On Tuesday, November 8, voters from across the nation participated in the 2022 U.S. general elections. ASA has been monitoring election results and continues to track several races that have not yet been determined.
At the time publication, the results of the 2022 general elections remain inconclusive in several races, including majority control of the United States Congress and Senate. A comprehensive list of ASAPAC political engagement will be available as the elections are finalized.
ASA would like to acknowledge and congratulate the anesthesiologists and Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants who sought elective office in 2022. Below are some initial results:
Won:
- U.S. House of Representatives:Andy Harris, MD (MD-01) Incumbent
- Alabama Senate: Timothy Melson, MD (District 1) Ran unopposed. Incumbent
- Georgia House of Representatives: Michelle Au, MD (District 50) Open Seat
- Georgia Senate: Chuck Hufstetler, C-AA (District 52) Ran unopposed. Incumbent
- Illinois House of Representatives: Bill Hauter, MD (District 87) Ran unopposed
- Kentucky Senate: Donald Douglas, MD (District 22) Incumbent
- Tennessee House of Representatives: Bryan Terry (District 48) Incumbent
- Texas House of Representatives: Tom Oliverson, MD (District 130) Incumbent
- St. Louis County Executive: Sam Page, MD Incumbent
- Utah Salt Lake City Council: Suzanne Harrison, MD
ASA recognizes Ervin Yen, MD, for his unsuccessful run for Governor of Oklahoma and further commends Alex Choi, MD, for a race well-run for the Indiana State Senate District 29. Dr. Choi narrowly lost his race for the Senate and remains an elected member of the Zionsville Towns Council.
