Last week, a new bipartisan “Doc Fix” bill was introduced to undo recently enacted payment cuts and provide a partial inflationary update. H.R. 879, the Medicare Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act, would reverse the 2.83 percent Medicare payment cut that went into effect January 1, and also provide a 2 percent update for the remainder of 2025.
ASA has long advocated for Congressional action to avert a Medicare physician payment cut to stop another damaging round of cuts to health care providers like anesthesiologists; but, also to provide greater certainty and stability for physician practices. This legislation is an important first step toward ultimately enacting a mandated annual full annual inflation adjustment.
The bill was introduced by a bipartisan group of lawmakers: Congressman Greg Murphy (R-NC-03), Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA-01), Congressman John Joyce, MD (R-PA-13), Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV-01), Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (R-NY-24), Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-19), Congresswoman Kim Schrier, MD (D-WA-08), Congressman Raul Ruiz, MD (D-CA-25), Congressman Ami Bera, MD (D-CA-06) and Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL-08).
