Run for an officer position on the ASA Resident Component Governing CouncilAPSF Resident Quality Improvement Recognition Program
Detailed submission instructions will become available on the APSF website homepage under the “Announcements” section in summer of 2019. Program submissions will consist of a video describing your QI project. Submissions are limited to one entry per U.S. anesthesiology residency training program. Submissions are typically due in August. Designated members of APSF Committee on Education and Training will review all submissions. The top two project winners will receive financial awards and be recognized during the ASA Resident Component House of Delegates at the ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2019 annual meeting in Orlando, FL. Write a Residents’ Review article
The ASA Resident Component is responsible for one article each month in the ASA MONITOR®. The ASA Residents’ Review co-editors are always looking for qualified people with good ideas to write articles. Got an idea for a good article? Let the editors know.
Participate in the ASA Resident Component House of Delegates (HOD) Meeting
Usually this meeting takes place in October during the ANESTHESIOLOGY annual meeting and rotates location. There you will vote on resolutions, make policy decisions and elect your representatives. Your state society appoints resident delegates. Contact your state society for details.
Take advantage of FAER career development and grant opportunities
The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) provides educational opportunities and career development for anesthesiologists, residents and medical students. Advancing anesthesia education is core to FAER’s mission, and it is core to many of FAER’s programs. For anesthesia residents actively beginning careers in academics and research, the FAER Resident Scholar Program provides a gateway to the latest knowledge in the specialty. Learn more about FAER.
Organize and host a Resident Regional Meeting
The ASA offers $1,000 annually to groups of residents in each of the ASA’s five regions who want to organize a regional meeting. The residents can choose the topic of the meeting and are encouraged to apply for and obtain matching grants from the state anesthesia societies.
Contact and coordinate with your state anesthesia society
Often your participation in the ASA is guided and sponsored by your state society. You can find your state component and contact information here. The ASA Resident Component is always exploring ways to help residents become as active as possible at the state level.
AMSA Education and Career Development Opportunities
AMSA is national organization committed to representing the concerns of physicians-in-training. AMSA members are residents, practicing physicians, medical students, premedical students, and interns. AMSA is committed to improving medical training and the nation's health, as well as providing clinical skills workshop volunteer opportunities. Learn more about AMSA.
The ACGME Review Committee Resident Member
The ACGME invites all interested ASA Resident Component members to apply for each term as the Resident Member on the Review Committee (RRC) for Anesthesiology. The deadline for ASA resident members' applications will be posted for each subsequent nomination term. More information will be posted closer to the date of the next nomination term.
The Anesthesia Foundation – Helping Anesthesiologists Succeed
The Anesthesia Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by a group of concerned anesthesiologists in 1956 to provide low interest loans to residents in anesthesiology who were in need of financial assistance. The Anesthesia Foundation can provide low interest loans up to $7,500 to residents in financial need with easy repayment terms that commence after graduation from residency or fellowship. The goals and the purposes of the Foundation are: to support young physicians in their choice of anesthesiology as a specialty; support specific projects that enhance the specialty of anesthesiology and are not supported by other agencies; and recognize and preserve the American heritage of anesthesiology.
