Phillip Richardson, MD, MBA, FASA, CPE, FAACD, FACHE, has been a practicing anesthesiologist for over 20 years. He currently serves as vice president of medical affairs, surgery at PIH Health, Whittier. He has served as board member of multiple hospitals, CEO of a private physician group, board member of University of California, Irvine Paul Merage School of Business Dean’s Leadership Circle, assistant treasurer of California Society of Anesthesiologists, as well as multiple department, hospital, state and national committees.
Dr. Richardson earned degrees in physics (BS), biology (BS), medicine (MD), and business (MBA) at The University of California, Irvine (UCI). He completed a surgical internship and anesthesiology residency at UCI as well. He worked at CHOC Children’s for over 15 years in Orange County and is boarded in anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesiology.
Shena J. Scott, MBA, FACMPE, founder and CEO of Scott Healthcare Consulting, Inc., has been actively involved in medical group practice administration for over 30 years. She spent the first 22 years of her career as the executive director of a mid-sized anesthesia practice in Melbourne, FL. She led the practice through a merger with five other practices in three different specialties to form Brevard Physician Associates (BPA), a 300+ provider group that supports all of the emergency medicine, radiology and anesthesia services for the largest integrated delivery system in Brevard County, Florida. She formed Scott Healthcare Consulting, Inc. in 2018.
Ms. Scott has spent the last several years consulting with anesthesia practices and hospitals across the country helping them to align incentives and modify staffing and service requirements to minimize the need for hospital support of anesthesia services. Additionally, she helps anesthesia groups with practice improvement in a variety of areas including strategic planning and governance, physician compensation systems, mergers, and managed care contracting. She is a former Chair of the MGMA board of directors, served as president of the MGMA Anesthesia Administration Assembly, and currently serves as Vice Chair of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Committee on Practice Management and is a frequent lecturer at ASA, MGMA, and other conferences.
Adam Striker, MD, FASA, is currently Chair of the ASA Committee on Communications, and is the series editor for ASA’s Central Line podcast series. He is an Associate Professor and serves as staff anesthesiologist in the Division of Cardiac Anesthesia at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and in the Division of Pediatric Anesthesia at Kentucky Children’s Hospital as part of the Joint Congenital Heart Care Program. He received his undergraduate degree in engineering from Purdue University and his medical degree from Indiana University. He completed his pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Northwestern University.
