Dr. Lalitha Sundararaman, guest editor of the January ASA Monitor, and Dr. Aaron Tebbs, Chair of the Committee on Late Career and Retired Members, join Dr. Zach Deutch to discuss retirement. Lalitha Sundararaman, MD, is a board-certified anesthesiologist and pain specialist. Dr. Sundararaman is a member of several ASA Committees, an editor for the ASA Monitor, and a published Tamil poet. She is also the founder and co-director of the Prana Holistic Foundation in India, committed to combining allopathic, ayurvedic, and acupuncture techniques for women’s health, pain management, and wellness.
Dr. Sundararaman has won several awards including “best academic achievement in residency” and an “accomplished emerging faculty” award in India. Trained as an anesthesiologist in both India and the U.S., she has a global perspective on anesthesia care. Her ideal world would be one with no inequities of health care and access for all. She is especially interested in anesthesia for newer innovative procedures outside the OR.
Aaron A. Tebbs, MD, FASA is an attending anesthesiologist with Mountain West Anesthesia’s Saint George Regional Hospital Group in Saint George, Utah. He chairs the ASA Committee on Late Career and Retired Members, serves on the ASA Committee on Membership, and is a past president of the Maine Society of Anesthesiologists.
Dr. Tebbs is a graduate of Brigham Young University and received his medical degree from Texas Tech University School of Medicine. After completing residency training at Maine Medical Center where he served as chief resident, he went on to pursue further sub-specialization training in cardiac anesthesia at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.
Zachary Deutch, MD, FASA, is an associate professor of anesthesiology at the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville and is a guest editor for The Central Line Podcast. Dr. Deutch serves on the editorial board for the ASA Monitor, and is the author of the bimonthly column "Ask The Expert." Dr. Deutch is also the physician review editor of the ASA Monitor Today, is a member of several ASA Committees, and is an at-large member of the ASA House of Delegates from Florida.
Dr. Deutch is a graduate of Princeton University and The George Washington University School of Medicine. His residency training was done at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, followed by a cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.
