Abigail Schirmer, MD, is a CA-1 at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL and the recently elected President-Elect of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Resident Component. Dr. Schirmer received her undergraduate degrees from the University of Florida and her Doctorate of Medicine from Florida State University College of Medicine. During her medical school education, she completed a Foundation of Anesthesiology Education and Research (FAER) Medical Student Research Fellowship at the University of Colorado and served as the ASA Medical Student Component President (2020-2021). Dr. Schirmer completed her internship in General Surgery at St. John Hospital in Detroit, MI. She is passionate about patient safety, quality improvement, and increasing opportunities for trainee involvement at the state and national levels.
Richard Himes, MD, is a recently retired, after 45 years, clinical anesthesiologist who has been in practice with the Austin Anesthesiology Group since 1979. He has been active in local hospital leadership and committee work and has helped his practice grow and provide excellent patient care over several decades.
Dr. Himes received his undergraduate degree from Brown University and medical degree from the University of Virginia. His post graduate training was at the University of Virginia, followed by a fellowship and junior faculty position at the University of Florida before moving to Austin Texas. In his nonprofessional time, he is a passionate supporter of Hospice Austin where he is on the corporate board, and spends time with Quincy, his Golden Retriever Therapy Dog at hospitals, schools and other facilities. In his retirement he is also fortunate to be able to escape the Texas summer heat and travel to a cabin in Colorado.
Mark Singleton, MD, FASA, is professor of pediatric anesthesiology at Stanford University and the University of California at San Francisco. Dr. Singleton currently works clinically in a variety of mostly children’s hospitals in the San Francisco Bay area, in both private practice and academic environments. He is passionate about teaching fellows, residents, and medical students and has held many positions of leadership in the California Society of Anesthesiologists including president and president emeritus, as well as serving as the ASA as director for California and chair of the committee on pediatric anesthesia. Dr. Singleton began volunteering for overseas medical missions in 1986 and has been continuously involved with several global health organizations since then, providing anesthesia for patients and teaching anesthesia providers in many parts of Africa, Central and South America, and Asia. He was born, raised, and educated in California.
Adam Striker, MD, FASA, is the past chair of the ASA’s Committee on Communications and is the series editor for ASA’s Central Line podcast series. He is Professor of Anesthesiology at Medical College of Wisconsin, a pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist at Children’s Wisconsin and serves as Director of Clinical Operations for pediatric anesthesiology at Children's Wisconsin. He received his undergraduate degree in engineering from Purdue University and his medical degree from Indiana University. He completed his pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Northwestern University.
