Paul Picton, MB ChB, MRCP, FRCA, is the inaugural David W. Learned Collegiate Professor of Anesthesiology, service chief, adult anesthesia, senior associate chair for clinical affairs and quality and executive director of clinical anesthesiology services within the Department of Anesthesiology, University of Michigan. He has been a faculty member within the divisions of Transplant and Hepatobiliary Anesthesia since 2006.
Dr. Picton graduated from the University of Sheffield Medical School, UK, and completed residency training in both internal medicine and anesthesiology at the University of Southampton, UK. He received fellowship training in liver transplant and hepatobiliary anesthesia at the Institute of Liver Studies, Kings College Hospital, London, UK. Dr. Picton’s primary research interests are cerebral vulnerability and monitoring, and he forms part of a team evaluating the fundamental principles of mechanism of anesthesia and consciousness. He currently sits on the Leadership Advisory Board for the Association and University Anesthesiologists.
Matthew Whalin, MD, PhD, is an associate professor of anesthesiology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. He practices at Grady Memorial Hospital, a level I trauma center and one of the busiest stroke centers in the country. His research focus is the anesthetic management of ischemic stroke patients during thrombectomy procedures. Dr. Whalin majored in biology and chemistry at Williams College before completing his medical scientist training program at Emory University. His dissertation explored animal models of diabetic vascular disease in the laboratory of Dr. W. Robert Taylor. He remained at Emory for residency and joined the faculty in 2012.
Adam Striker, MD, FASA, is the past chair of the ASA’s Committee on Communications and is the series editor for ASA’s Central Line podcast series. He is Professor of Anesthesiology at Medical College of Wisconsin, a pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist at Children’s Wisconsin and serves as Director of Clinical Operations for pediatric anesthesiology at Children's Wisconsin. He received his undergraduate degree in engineering from Purdue University and his medical degree from Indiana University. He completed his pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Northwestern University.
