Listen in as Dr. Lynde talks about Emory’s Quality Improvement initiatives, the role of sustainability, the power of data, the value of team building, the evolution of benchmarking, what he’s learned from failure, and more. (Recorded August 2020)
Dr. Grant Lynde is an associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and is Vice Chair of Quality for the Emory University Department of Anesthesiology. Leveraging his clinical role and informatics resources, he leads hospital system-wide efforts to reduce postoperative wound infections, decrease need for opioid prescriptions after surgery, and improve care for patients with diabetes. Grant is the Treasurer for the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) and Chair of ASA’s Committee on Quality Measures and Department Administration.
As part of his quality improvement role, Grant is an ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt and his division is quickly developing means of accessing data deep within Emory’s systems to analyze how we care for patients in the perioperative environment and identify how that care affects patients long term. He is also interested in the care environment, examining how the culture of communication in the operating room affects staff turnover and overall patient outcomes.
Adam Striker, MD, FASA, is currently Chair of the ASA Committee on Communications, and is the series editor for ASA’s Central Line podcast series. He received his undergraduate degree in engineering from Purdue University and his medical degree from Indiana University. He completed his pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Northwestern University.
