Anesthesiology study on gastric emptying during labor featured on HealthDay
The article discussed the study, that found gastric emptying is substantially slower during labor – but somewhat faster in women who receive an epidural for pain control, which could have implications for recommendations about solid foods during labor. "These results should lead anesthesiologists to remain cautious about permitting solid food during labor, especially when no epidural analgesia is used," according to Lionel Bouvet, M.D., Ph.D., and colleagues of Hospices Civils de Lyon, Lyon, France.
