In the article, Mark Zakowski, M.D., FASA, chair of ASA’s Committee on Obstetric Anesthesia, wrote about anesthesiologists’ key role in improving patient safety and positively impacting labor and delivery experiences. “Acute pain after surgery or delivery has been associated with greater risks of chronic pain and postpartum depression, and we are continually working to improve provider and patient education and treatment choices,” he wrote.
