ANESTHESIOLOGY 2023 research featured on MedPage Today
The outlet featured multiple articles on studies presented at the meeting including one that revealed patients who had interventional radiology procedures were more likely to be discharged home, rather than to a long-term care facility when their sedation was administered or directed by an anesthesiologist, another that found it was better to delay repair of hip fractures in older patients on anticoagulants, one that showed critically ill patients receiving blood transfusions of 10 or more units had better survival when hemoglobin levels were close to normal, and one that found an early warning system that assessed a patient’s uterine tone score after cesarean delivery may prevent postpartum hemorrhage. James Xie, MD, lead author of the early warning system study said, “[The next step] is to assess whether using [low tone score] to trigger implementation of hemorrhage care bundles improves patient outcomes.”
