On Monday, January 22, Congressional leaders reached a short-term funding compromise, allowing the federal government to reopen after three days of a shutdown. This short-term solution will fund the government through February 8.
In the compromise, Senate leaders agreed to consider immigration legislation in February, and also extended the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for six years. Additionally, Senate leaders committed to fund community health centers and include additional funds for efforts to combat the opioid abuse epidemic in a larger spending bill.
Also included in the bill are provisions that delay the implementation of three ACA-related taxes – the medical device tax, the Cadillac tax, and the health insurance tax.
