Momentum Builds for ASA-Supported Letter to Avert Medicare Cuts: Additional Supporters Needed

An ASA-supported congressional letter urging action to prevent scheduled Medicare payment cuts for anesthesiologists and other specialties has reached 100 signatories in the House of Representatives. In the letter, Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. (D-CA-07) and Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (R-IN-08) write that the impending 9 percent payment cuts scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2022 “will strain our health care system and jeopardize patient access to medically necessary services.”

The bipartisan letter asks congressional leaders to take immediate action to avert the upcoming payment cuts, while continuing discussions on long-term reforms that will allow Medicare payments to account for inflation and fairly pay physician and other health care providers.

ASA and over 140 other federal, state, and local medical organizations have voiced their support for the Bera-Bucshon letter and lobbied members of the House of Representatives to sign the letter.

ASA is strongly opposed to any Medicare payment cuts.

Urge your member of Congress to sign on to the Bera-Bucshon letter and support the financial stability of medical practices across the country.
