ASA Urges Congressional Leadership to Advance “Doc Fix” Bill
Following the introduction of bipartisan “Doc Fix” legislation, ASA joined 130 other medical specialty organizations in sending a formal communication to Congressional leadership in support of the bill. H.R. 879, the Medicare Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act, would reverse the most recent Medicare payment cut from January and ensure a payment increase of 2%, partially offsetting inflationary costs.
Medicare payment cuts affect physicians’ ability to provide high-quality patient care, particularly in rural areas and underserved populations. ASA has consistently supported efforts to halt Medicare payment cuts to bolster stability and security for health care providers, like anesthesiologists. This legislation opens the door to more robust protection for Medicare payment, such as an ASA-endorsed mandatory annual payment inflation adjustment.
