The American Society of Anesthesiologists designates this enduring activity for a maximum of 5.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program® and MOCA® are registered certification marks of The American Board of Anesthesiology®.

This activity contributes to the patient safety CME requirement for the CME component of the American Board of Anesthesiology’s (ABA) redesigned Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology® (MOCA®) program, known as MOCA 2.0®. Please consult the ABA website, www.theABA.org, for a list of all MOCA 2.0 requirements.

The course objectives are to help you improve your awareness, knowledge, and skills in identifying signs and symptoms and outlining appropriate measures for managing crisis situations in the OR. At the completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • Identify rare and complex prearrest circulatory crises that require immediate response in the perioperative setting.
  • Review the essentials of BLS and ALS.
  • Manage various forms of shock that may devolve into cardiac arrest.
  • Apply principles of monitoring and management of ventilation, gas trapping, and resuscitation to hemodynamic instability and cardiac arrest.
  • Outline treatment for common tachydysrhythmias and bradydysrhythmias, pump shock, airway management, and hypovolemia.
  • Manage special causes of cardiac arrest including anaphylaxis, gas embolism, and malignant hyperthermia.
  • Annotate ACLS algorithms to include common peri-operative causes of bradycardia, tachycardia, and Pulseless Electrical Activity.
All perioperative physicians and members of the care team including Anesthesiologists, CAAs, CRNAs, Prep-Recovery RNs, proceduralists, surgeons, and intensivists.
